What to Look for in a Wireless Keyboard

Keyboards can vary greatly when comparing features. The keyboard that best fits your work from home office needs depends on the amount you want to spend, your must-have features, and compatibility features just to name a few. It is best to consider how you will most likely be using the keyboard. Do you need it for sitting at your desk all day? Are you planning on moving around? Do you want support for multiple devices? These are questions you should ask before buying. We’ve also listed a few extra things you may want to consider.

    Price

Wireless keyboards can range in price from around $20 to well over $300. Check out the prices of the products we review (they can vary considerably due to sales and new product launches).

    Compatibility

Make certain the keyboard you purchase will work with the devices you use most frequently. Most wireless keyboards use Bluetooth, a universal pairing protocol, so it will likely not be an issue. But double check just to make sure!

    Size

Some wireless keyboards are quite compact and lightweight, with the idea being that no wires make mobility an easy possibility. Some other wireless keyboards are the same size as regular wired keyboards and can include a large number-pad or ergonomic features.

    Battery Life

The main downside of being a wireless keyboard is that they have no power-cord. Wireless keyboards have varying battery lives and sources of power. Some run off of rechargeable batteries such as the Apple Magic Keyboard, which can be charged with your iPhone charging cable. While others run off of lithium ion batteries such as AA, which will need to be replaced.

Multi Device and Ease of Switching

Some of the keyboards that we recommend offer easy switching between devices. If you are a tablet user or like using your iPhone to send emails, a wireless keyboard that supports many devices would be a great option for you.

    Backlighting

Backlighting can be important for workers who are in a low-light environment. The feature is very popular with PC gamers and can bring a bit of fun to your work from home office.

    Inactivity Detection

This feature automatically turns the wireless keyboard off when it has not been used for a period of time. It is an excellent feature that helps save precious battery life.

    What is a Bluetooth Keyboard

A Bluetooth keyboard is simply a wireless keyboard that uses the Bluetooth protocol to connect to your devices. Adding the Bluetooth capability is a fairly new concept and allows writers, gamers, programmers, and more to utilize their computer, smartphone, or tablet without worrying with connecting a wire. The range can vary from 10 feet up to 30-35 feet.
